HS BASEBALL: MHS uses 7-run frame to crush Permian

ODESSA -- Behind a seven-run third inning and a strong complete-game start from sophomore right-hander Tyler Wade, Midland High rolled to an 11-1 District 2-6A victory in six innings over Odessa Permian, Tuesday at McCanlies Field.

Wade allowed the one run on seven hits, while striking out four and walking one. At the plate, he went 3-for-4 with a run as the Bulldogs’ leadoff hitter.

Leading 2-0, MHS (11-12, 5-3 in District 2-6A) broke the game open in the third. Run-scoring hits by Brooks Betcher, Logan Hatfield and Sam Matchus made it 5-0, before Chris Sims connected on a two-run shot to right field.

Sam Bertelson followed with a two-RBI single to make it 9-0 Bulldogs.

Sims finished 2-for-3 with the home run and three RBI; Betcher was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a pair of runs, while Bertelson was 1-for-4 with a pair driven in for MHS, which totaled 14 hits.
