Program Goals & Philosophies
Here are some of the elements of what we strive to include in our South Lyon basketball program.
- Strong recreation and feeder program for elementary aged kids K-5.
- Strong Middle School program with coaches that are teaching the same fundamentals, drills and plays as the High School.
- Travel teams for the top athletes to participate in during the off-season for all ages.
- Summer camps where the High School kids are working with and teaching the younger kids the proper fundamentals and establishing mentor relationships.
- A coaching staff at every level that is committed to character development and true genuine concern for each individual as a person.
- A coaching staff that is committed to CANI (Constant and Never-ending Improvement) and always learning and increasing their knowledge of the game through study, camps, clinics, videos.
- Having a spirit “filled” gym with a LARGE /LOYAL student section, pep band, cheerleaders and thousand (standing room only) of loud fans.
- Having teams that play together, work hard and play smart.
- Having the teams do things together away from basketball such as team dinners, canoe trips, whirlyball, ropes courses, paintball, etc. creating friendships off the court.
- The teams attend summer team camps and individual camps.
- Having Players committed to weight lifting in the off-season and individual skill development.
- A positive spirit pervades all practices with players enjoying practices and feeling as if they are improving themselves as both athletes and leaders.
- A strong booster club that supports the financial needs of the team for summer camps, special events and helps promote team spirit!
- A sense of belonging with all graduates coming back wanting to help out at summer camps, assist in coaching and maintaining pride for the team they once played on.
- A statistician team that is well trained and keeps accurate statistics.
- Parental support in the values we are teaching.
- School and administrative support in the values we are teaching as well as showing up to games.
- Have all the basic fundamentals mastered at the freshmen level.
